Re: What's More Annoying? |
I guarantee you these replies will be gender-biased :) Too many guys here have it in for Bob. I have no problem at all with any of Bobby's, er, flourishes. Even when I'm aware they are not 100% successful musically speaking - or when they admittedly go on a wee bit longer than necessary - they do not annoy me, they are still enjoyable.
When Donna is "off," it can be painful, or sometimes, frightening.

Re: What's More Annoying? |
I guarantee you, my answer is not gender-biased, but more on sheer numbers. While Donna did a fine job ruining PTB and Scarlet, over roughly a 6 year period, Weir was capable of wreaking havoc on any number of songs over a much longer time. Mind you, I'm a big Weir fan - you can't listen to this band without liking Weir and some eccentricities. And, for the most part, I like Donna's other contributions very much, as long as she doesn't over-sing. I admit, the "fright factor" was higher with Donna, partly because you know when it's coming, but the "ouch factor" with Weir could rear its ugly head at any moment, and was sustained or indulged far too much.

Great point.

Re: What's More Annoying? |
I have a pretty high tolerance level when it's just me. If it's not just me, well ... definitely cringe-worthy. I have a whole collection of family comments: "Is Donna being disemboweled?" "Is someone strangling Bob?"
And it's not just Donna and Bob. Pigpen's raps? Oh, ouch. Let Phil sing? Really? As for Jerry ... "Fozzie bear choking on a hot dog" has become a phrase in my house.
Let's face it, enjoying this band is kind of like loving a one-eyed mutt. Which I'd take over the pedigreed and perfectly groomed dog-show winner any day, but there ya go.

Well, I must give proper attribution. The Fozzie bear comment is vintage forum. Strat, I think. But it's definitely become a saying around here. We even have a local rooster we've nicknamed Fozzie Jerry.
